Giant knotweed is one of polygonaceae plants, and its native to east Asia and widely distributed in China.Giant knotweed in China and Japan in traditional medicine used to treat a variety of ailments, including fungal infection, a variety of skin inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and liver diseases, etc.Resveratrol and emodin is the main functional component in the giant knotweed.Studies have shown that resveratrol and emodin showed a wide range of antioxidant properties, such as oxidation of LDL cholesterol and lipid peroxidation.Resveratrol shows that contribute to cardiovascular health and invigorate the circulation at the same time, alleviate pain, heat, moisture, to poison to phlegm.Other ingredients include Dan anthracene ketone, emodin methyl ether and rhein have anti-inflammatory, remove arthritis and antimicrobial activity.
Resveratrol is naturally occurring phytoalexin produced by some higher plants in response to injury or fungal infection. Phytoalexins are chemical substances produced by plants as a defense against in faction by pathogenic microorganisms, such as fungi. Alexin is from the Greek, meaning to ward off or to protect, Resveratrol may also have alexin-like activity for humans, Epidemiological, in vitro and animal studies suggest that a high resveratrol intake is associated with a reduced incidence of cardiovascular disease, and a reduced risk for cancer.
