Diosmetin, CAS 520-34-3, is the aglycone of the flavonoid glycoside diosmin which occurs naturally in citrus fruits. In citrus, there are already many active ingredients commercially available as bulk raw powders, such as hesperidin, diosmin, hesperitin, synephrine, neohesperidin, naringin, methyl hesperidin, methyl hesperidin chalcone, naringin dihydrochalcone, and citrus bioflavonoid, etc. However, diosmetin may be the least popular one among them. All these flavones are generally regarded as safe (GRAS) and used in dietary supplemets formulas, but diosmetin is too new to get noticed.Scientifically known as 3′, 5, 7-trihydroxy-4′-methoxyflavone-7-ramnoglucoside, diosmetin is an O-methylated flavone recognized for its tumor-suppressing capabilities. Diosmetin is the active metabolite of diosmin, and they share similar molecular structures. Diosmin is rapidly hydrolyzed to diosmetin in the intestine with the help of intestinal microflora enzymes.
