HBT1 is a molecule that can only bind to a specific site on the AMPA-R protein when glutamate is present, and this binding helps regulate the activity of the protein.  AMPA receptors are expressed throughout the central nervous system and play important roles in neuronal communication, sensory processing, learning, memory, and synaptic plasticity.  AMPA receptors are major contributors to excitatory neurotransmission, mediate rapid, rapidly desensitizing excitation at many synapses, and are involved in early responses to glutamate in synaptic regions.  AMPA receptors are often co-expressed with NMDA receptors at synapses, and together they promote synaptic plasticity processes involved in learning, memory, excitotoxicity, and neuroprotection. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a neurotrophic factor that plays an important role in the maintenance and expansion of neurons and has powerful and numerous effects on the proliferation, differentiation, survival and death of neuronal and non-neuronal cells. , a neurotransmitter modulator that contributes to neuronal plasticity in learning and memory. Applications:

HBT1 is a novel potent AMPA-R [alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionic acid (AMPA) receptor] potentiator with lower agonistic effect compared with LY451395 and OXP1, it induces production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and exhibits little agonistic effect in primary neurons. HBT1 binds to ligand-binding domain of AMPA-R in glutamate dependent manner
