Ginger is a spice which is used for cooking and is also consumed whole as a delicacy or medicine. It is the underground stem of the ginger plant, Zingiber officinale. The ginger plant has a long history of cultivation, having originated in Asia and is grown in India Southeast Asia, West Africa and the Caribbean. The actual name for ginger is Root Ginger. However, it is commonly referred to as ginger, as the meaning is well known. The extract of the dried ginger is a mixture, which has many effective components, including dried ginger essence oil as well as gingerol (gingiberol, zingiberone and shogaol, etc. ) 
It has many physiologic functions and efficacies, such as lowering blood lipid, lowering blood pressure, softening blood vessel, preventing myocardial infarction, prevention and treatment of cholecysitis and gallstones, relieving and eliminating stomachache suffered from gastroduodenul ulcer, treatment of common cold, lowering weigh and eliminating “senile plaque”. It also possesses a special efficacy of relieving seasick and carsick.

Function:

-Ginger improves blood circulation, stimulating the secretion of  digestive fluids in the stomach 

and intestine ducts.                              

-Gingerosl dilutes the blood so that the blood flows more fluently, supplying the brain with more oxygen and nutrients.     

-Gingeriols are thought to detoxify gastric substances that could lead to nausea.                             -Ginger is also thought to increase the tone and movement of the intestines, and to promote heart health.                                    

-Furthermore, ginger may inhibit substances that could cause the

pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis.

Application

-Dried ginger powder is used in making spices and masalas which are used in gravies, curries, 

marinades, stews etc. 
-Dried ginger powder is combined along with cardamom, cinnamon, fennel and cloves to make 

masala tea powder which is used in brewed teas.
-It is used in Indian, specifically Punjabi marinades for Tandoori starters, veg as well as non veg. 
-It is commonly used to flavour gingerbreads. 
-Dried Ginger powder is also used in certain food preparations particularly for expecting women 

and feeding mothers, the most popular one being Katlu which is a mixture of gum resin, ghee, 

dried ginger powder, nuts, and sugar.
-Dried ginger powder is used in tea or coffee and also in siddha medicine.
